About Copper Base PCB
Copper base boards use a solid copper core in place of aluminum. Copper conducts heat roughly twice as well as aluminum, so these boards handle the highest power densities, such as high-power LEDs, laser diodes and RF power amplifiers.
Thermoelectric separation boards go a step further: the component's thermal pad sits directly on a raised copper pedestal and bypasses the dielectric, while the electrical circuit stays isolated. We supply single- and double-sided copper base boards, including thick 4.0 mm builds with blind slots.
Typical applications
- High-power LED modules
- Laser and infrared emitters
- RF power amplifiers
- Automotive headlamps
- Power electronics
Common questions
What is a thermoelectric separation copper base PCB?
A copper base board where the thermal path and the electrical path are separated. The component's thermal pad is soldered directly to the copper core, so heat does not have to pass through the insulating dielectric.
Is copper base worth the extra cost over aluminum?
Use it when an aluminum board cannot keep component temperatures in spec, or when there is no room for a larger heat sink. For moderate heat loads, aluminum is usually enough.
