About Black Core FR4 PCB
Black core FR4 uses a laminate that is black all the way through, not just on the surface. It stops light passing through the board and its edges, which matters for optical sensors, cameras and displays, and it gives products a clean, uniform look.
We supply black core boards from 4 to 8 layers, including BGA designs with solder mask bridges and immersion gold, HASL boards, and heavy-copper builds up to 6 oz.
Typical applications
- Optical sensors and camera modules
- LED displays and backlights
- Infrared devices
- Consumer products where appearance matters
Common questions
Why choose black core FR4 instead of black solder mask?
Black solder mask only colors the surface, and light can still pass through a standard translucent FR4 core and out of its edges. A black core blocks light through the full thickness of the board.
Does black core FR4 behave differently from standard FR4?
Its electrical and mechanical properties are close to standard FR4, so most designs can switch without changing the stack-up. Confirm the exact laminate grade with us when you request a quote.
